A video was shared on social media showing the moment tsunami waves flooded the coast of Severo-Kurilsk after the earthquake in Russia.

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Russia ‘s Kamchatka Peninsula, flooding the Severo-Kurilsk coast in the Kuril Islands archipelago. A video of the coastal town being submerged by the tsunami spread on social media.
It should be noted that the population of Severo-Kurilsk is around 2,500 people, and due to the tsunami warning, it had to be evacuated.
Tsunami waves hit the Severo-Kurilsk coast
According to the mayor of the Northern Kuril Islands district, Aleksandr Ovsiannikov, four tsunami waves hit Severo-Kurilsk.
For her part, Elena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhakinsk seismic station, told local media that the tsunami threat had extended to the entire Kuril archipelago.
Devastation after earthquake in Russia
Images and videos circulated on social media showing the moment dozens of buildings were covered in water.
In addition, a seafood processing factory was submerged and containers were left floating adrift by the oncoming waves .
The waves reached up to four meters high in some areas.
There were no casualties from the earthquake and tsunami in Russia.
Russian authorities confirmed Wednesday that no fatalities have been reported from the earthquake.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said all people were evacuated and taken to safe zones.
The earthquake is one of the strongest recorded since 2011 and prompted mass evacuations from Hawaii to Japan. Tsunami warnings were also issued in several Pacific-coast countries, including the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia.
